Centre of Booming Region
The region of two cities lying on Danube River Bratislava – Vienna had been declared by the international organization OECD in year........ as one of the regions with the largest potential of economic and social development.
Especially Bratislava went through the significant changes during the last 15 years. Despite its long history today it is a modern and dynamic capital city, to which flow almost 60% of all foreign investments coming to Slovakia.
Bratislava is the political and business center of the country. More than 75% inhabitants are employed in the tertiary sector. Such data ranks Bratislava to the developed regions of other members of the European Union.
The largest share on GDP in this region is generated especially by tourism, trade and information technologies (27%), banking (23%) and industry (22%).
In Bratislava have seats many multinational companies like Volkswagen, IBM, Orange, T-Mobile, E.ON etc.
Bratislava is also the intelligence center of Slovakia. There are resided in total 8 universities, with more than 30 faculties. Yearly 50 000 students study in Bratislava. Universities provide the university education in all the areas of science and research, economy, information technologies, law, humanities, social sciences, medicine, art, architecture and natural sciences. With regard to the high educational level of the residents of this region many labor-sophisticated investments flow to Bratislava. One of the latest large investments is the construction of „Central European Park for Innovative Technologies“ (CEPIT).
At present besides the planned construction of the technological park CEPIT, started the construction of the other projects focused on the construction of the premises and buildings utilized for offices, stores, leisure time, congresses and tourism. These are mostly the areas in the city centre of Bratislava oriented to the completion and revitalization of Danube Riverfront (projects River Park and EUROVEA), and the premises of the main railway station and bus station.
The courageous project in Bratislava is the planned reconstruction of Bratislava airport and its linkage by the bullet train to the international airport in Vienna (Schwechat).
Thus Bratislava follows its ambition of so called „white city“, which is a dynamic center of the development of the surrounding region as well as the whole Slovak Republic.
