BRATISLAVA - Little Big City

Welcome to Bratislava

Today Bratislava is experiencing what are probably its best years in terms of tourism. The once “best kept secret” gem in Europe is now one of the current hits of urban tourism. Even so, at the very height of the tourist season Bratislava is still not overflowing with tourists and its intimate historic centre has not been turned into some artificial open-air museum, as it remains a city that still breathes its authentic way of life.
Apart from the tastefully reconstructed historic centre, visitors to Bratislava also appreciate the fact that they have everything right under their nose, so to speak: it is just a small step away from city centre hotels to the venues of congresses, conferences or large meetings, or to the many cosy bars, cafes and restaurants for a pleasant evening.
Bratislava is therefore not an imperial type of city like Vienna or Budapest, which makes its label of “Little Big City” seem all the more appropriate. This sums up well the virtues of Bratislava: a standard on a par with any major European city in terms of infrastructure, business or culture goes hand in hand with the intimate charm of having everything within walking distance. This predestines Bratislava to grow in popularity among favoured congress cities.
Not so long ago Bratislava successfully organised the annual congress of the European Federation of Congress Towns. The closely followed Bush-Putin summit in February 2005 also put the city more strongly on the map. Bratislava makes use of marketing advantages that are essential for every successful congress city: sufficient facilities for congress and incentive tourism, transport access and security. What’s more, over the next 3-5 years new congress facilities will spring up in the city, especially along the attractive Danube embankment as part of the ambitious investment projects Riverpark and Eurovea. The strengths of Bratislava as a congress destination can probably now be summed up in three words: new, attractive and safe.
I am confident that you will have the opportunity to experience first hand the high value that Bratislava now has to offer as a congress event host.

Andrej Ïurkovský,
Mayor of Bratislava

Furthermore, all necessary basic and additional infrastructure is being developed and finished intensively.
